MADE IN ITALY RETURNS TO CIIE THANKS TO ICE
Everything is ready for the fourth edition of the China International Import Expo, the important event set up by the Chinese authorities to seal the strengthening of economic cooperation and global trade. The event will be held from 5 to 10 November 2021 and Italy will be present with a system action promoted by the MAECI and coordinated by the ICE-Agency.
Shanghai, November 6, 2021 – The fourth edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), the event promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Trade (MOFCOM) of the PRC under the patronage of President Xi Jinping and organized by CIIE, opens yesterday, November 5, 2021 Bureau. This is the first international fair in China dedicated to the import of goods and services in every sector and for this reason it is of strategic importance for the expansion of the business of Italian companies on the Chinese market.
The CIIE is an event in itself in the Chinese trade fair calendar. The aim of the event in the intentions of the organizers and promoters is to strengthen the role of China as an engine of global trade, while aiming to raise the qualitative and technological level and the innovation content of Chinese imports.
Since the first edition, ICE has been committed to promoting the participation of Made in Italy excellence in the event, to the point of making Italy one of the guests of honor of the second CIIE as a strategic commercial partner of the People’s Republic of China. In this fourth edition of the event, there will be 98 Italian exhibiting companies, concentrated in the sectors of greatest interest for Italian exports and present both individually and with the support of the ICE Agency and the Italy China Foundation. As in the three previous editions, also for 2021 the commercial exhibition will be divided into sectoral pavilions, with all the extraordinary security measures required by the Coronavirus emergency. In particular, 33 Italian companies will be hosted in the three pavilions managed directly by ICE, on a total of over 716 square meters. The pavilions will be dedicated to the gold-jewelery, medical and environmental technologies sectors and will see the presence of 16, 11 and 6 Italian companies respectively. The focus on these three sectors is motivated by the desire to encourage economic collaboration between Italy and China in a strategic form, starting from the main consumption trends of the Chinese market.
The pavilion of the gold and jewelery sector, created for the second consecutive edition of CIIE in collaboration with Confindustria Federorafi and marked by the brand “The Extraordinary Italian Jewelery”, will occupy an exhibition area of about 316 square meters with modules reserved for individual companies and a space common institutional structure, divided into a lounge area and a service and information center. The offer of the 16 companies present, highly representative of the main Italian gold districts, is a great attraction for Chinese imports. In fact, in China there is an increasingly marked demand for Italian jewelery products and already in the first nine months of 2021 Italy with an export value of 956 million euros was the second largest commercial partner for jewelery in China, with more a fifth of the country’s total imports in the sector. From 2018 to date, the volume of Chinese jewelry imports from Italy has increased by 56.69%.
The pavilion dedicated to medical equipment will instead see the participation of 11 Italian companies producing medical devices and pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products, oriented towards research and technological innovation. The exhibition space provided here is 250 square meters and includes a lounge and a business center available for Italian exhibiting companies.
Indeed, the medical device market in China is expected to continue its robust growth driven by positive factors on the side of demand, supply and regulation. Although it is already a net exporter of medical devices, China, with the improvement of living standards and the growing needs of people for medical care, requires the import of technologically advanced and high-end diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
The third Italian pavilion organized by ICE is the one dedicated to environmental technologies. The project for the expansion of “green” technologies is in fact of central importance in China and is included as a priority objective in the fourteenth five-year plan of the Chinese government. The aim is to improve the level of modernization of the industrial chain and the supply chain and strengthen strategic support for economic development and raising the quality of life. The production value of the Chinese energy saving and environmental protection industry from 2015 to 2020 has doubled. The pavilion will be developed on an exhibition area of 150 square meters that will welcome 6 exhibiting companies. A common institutional space will also be set up which will house a lounge area and an ICE-Agency information and service center.
For the 2021 edition, a virtual representation of the Italian Country Pavilion was also created on the official CIIE 2021 website. On 13 October, in the presence of the Deputy Director of the CIIE Liu Fuxie and the Consul General of Italy in Shanghai Michele Cecchi, the Trial operation ceremony of all the Online Country Exhibitions was celebrated and Italy was the only Country to be invited on stage for the ceremony together with the members of the Chinese government in consideration of the important work carried out since the first edition by the ICE-Agency at the CIIE.
In addition to the commercial pavilions and the virtual pavilion, in view of the Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism in 2022, on the occasion of CIIE 2021 the ICE-Agency has also created a pavilion of over 100 square meters dedicated to the promotion of cultural heritage Italian and designed by the well-known Italian designer Aldo Cibic. The pavilion – highly conceptual and representative of a perception of Italy’s success in the world, which goes beyond the usual elements that make our peninsula famous, for example also enhancing the countless sporting records recorded in 2021 – will be set up in the designated area at the cultural exhibitions of different countries in the Central Plaza of the NECC exhibition center.
Among the other important events scheduled to coincide with CIIE 2021, it should be noted that on the afternoon of November 6 at the Bulgari Hotel in Shanghai, the ICE-Agency will organize the event promoted by the Altagamma Foundation “Next Design Perspective Shanghai” which will be opened with greetings from the Italian Ambassador to China Luca Ferrari. The initiative, which is linked to the Italian “Next Design Perspective” event last October 28 in Milan and aims to address future trends in design in all its possible forms with a “Ted Talk” style format.
On November 10, the ICE-Agency will also take part in the important “International Jewelry Summit” scheduled at Jinjiang Hotel in Shanghai.
The event is co-organized by the National Gems and Jewelry Technological Administrative Center (NGTC), the Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China (GAC), the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) and the China Jems & Jade Exchange (CGE), with the patronage of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
All the pavilions and other promotional interventions fielded by ICE in support of the Italy system at the CIIE will be accompanied and supported by communication campaigns on the main Chinese digital channels, which will include, among other things, the creation of interviews and live streaming conducted by Local Key Opinion Leaders and published on the main Chinese social networks (such as WeChat and Weibo) and on the event portal.
